Jamaica and the Republic of Liberia Establish Diplomatic Relations

NEW YORK – These days, the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the Republic of Liberia formalized the organization of Diplomatic Relations during a Signing Ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters, in the margins of the High-Level Week segment of the 77 th General Assembly.
Both Ministers also asserted their intent to ensure that these newly established stations will be rapidly operationalized with the relevant diplomatic channels.
Throughout the Ceremony, Minister Johnson Jones said, “I am so pleased that this day has come when we finally formalize diplomatic relations along with Africa’s first republic. Substantial informal connections already can be found, but now the possibilities for assistance between our two nations are endless.   All of us look forward to strengthening our historic bonds as we work together on the bilateral and multilateral levels to attain sustainable development. ” The establishment of diplomatic relations between Jamaica plus Liberia is historic, and it is in line with the foreign policy goal of the Government of Jamaica to deepen engagement with all the African continent, and to recognize, together with opportunities for social, technical and people-to-people trades, specific opportunities for enhancing trade and investment. Both Ministers indicated their pride and honor in recognizing that the Very first Lady of Liberia, Her Excellency Ambassador Clar Marie Weah is Jamaican. They warmly exchanged views concerning the positive platform for cooperation, already signaled by this particular highest level presence plus engagement.

The establishing Joint Communiqué was signed for Jamaica by Senator the particular Honourable Kamina Johnson Cruz, Minister of Foreign Matters and Foreign Trade, and by His Excellency Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., Minister associated with Foreign Affairs of Liberia.
