Jamaica and China celebrate 50 years of Diplomatic Relations

Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister associated with Foreign Affairs and International Trade attended a reception recently to mark the occasion.
Manley Smith also commended China for pursuing international outreach and in particular South-South Cooperation, by which Jamaica has benefitted immensely.
She furthermore applauded China for being a key component in the promotion of Jamaica’s social development goals, such as the provision of scholarships intended for Jamaican students.
“The Ministry’s new fit-for-purpose home at the Hugh Shearer Creating, as well as the Edward Seaga Freeway, ” she said, are evidence of a fruitful relationship between the countries.
In providing her toast, the Minister shared that, “the presence of Chinese in Jamaica and Jamaicans of Chinese language descent have made important contributions to the island’s business, store, banking and restaurant neighborhoods, as well as its political and musical landscape. ”
