Union Minister Nitin Gadkari appeals the institutions like VNIT to take initiative for socio-economic revival of remote areas

Addressing the convocation ceremony of VNIT, the minister also appeals them to look into the local situation in Vidarbha

Union Minister of Road transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said that the institutions like Vishweshwaraiya National institute of Technology (VNIT) should look into the local situation in the mineral rich Vidarbha. He also appealed them to take an initiative for the socio-economic revival of remote tribal areas like Gadchiroli and Melghat. He was virtually addressing the 19th convocation ceremony of VNIT, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Bharatratna Sir M.Vishweshwaraiya, which is marked as National Engineers’ day. The ceremony was conducted in virtual manner.

The minister also suggested the engineering students to check the detailed project reports prepared for the construction of government buildings and share their suggestions on the same. This will enrich the students and simultaneously benefit such projects. The ministry of road transport and highways  welcomes the students’ suggestions in road construction  for using materials like waste plastic, jute, fly-ash etc which is environmentally sustainable. He stressed the need to use world’s best practices so as to make the project sustainable, efficient and to maintain high standards.

Vidarbha region produces ample amounts of rice, bamboo, orange and cotton. The minister appealed VNIT to use technology for better use of these rich resources to enrich Vidarbha region. He suggested that the institute may contribute towards roads engineering so as to minimize the accidents in Nagpur.

Gadkari congratulated the institute on winning the 24th place in NIRF ranking, meant for best engineering educational institutes. In this ceremony, 1,134 degrees including 49 PhD, 332 M.Tech., 60 M.Sc., 634 B.Tech. in various engineering faculties and 59 B.Arch degrees were conferred upon the students.
