Tribute to victims of Cubana Air disaster on 44th Anniversary



Hon. Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation today, paid tribute to the victims of the Cubana Air Disaster, which occurred 44 years ago today.

During a simple ceremony at the Cubana Air Disaster Monument at the University of Guyana’s Turkeyen Campus, President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Mohamed Irfaan Ali lead the wreath-laying exercise, alongside Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to Guyana, His Excellency, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro in honor of the 73 lives lost.

Also in attendance were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Honourable Charles Ramson, Honorary Consul of Barbados, Captain Gerry Gouveia, and Mr. Jeffery Thomas, a relative of one of the victims.

Of the 73 passengers who died on October 6, 1976, 57 were Cuban, 11 were Guyanese, and five were Korean.
