Minister Todd meets with Argentine Ambassador, Raleigh

The Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation today met with His Excellency Juan C. Valle Raleigh, Undersecretary for Latin America and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Commerce and Worship of the Argentine Republic. Ambassador Raleigh was accompanied by Ms. Dolores Kunst, Chargé d’affairés of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic.

During the meeting, Minister Todd and Undersecretary Raleigh discussed efforts to address COVID-19 in their respective countries, including the results of the vaccination programme and the economic effects of the pandemic. Minister also Todd noted that Guyana is advancing towards vaccination of 75% of the population by the end of the year and has successfully secured vaccines to meet this target.

Further, Minister Todd alluded to Guyana’s role in developing relations with Latin America and serving as a bridge between CARICOM and its South American neighbours, based on Guyana’s strategic location.

The Foreign Minister also referred to President Ali’s vision of regionalism and pointed to Guyana’s participation in the OAS, PROSUR, MERCOSUR and CELAC as indicative of Guyana’s commitment to regional integration.

The Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Argentine Republic established diplomatic relations on October 6, 1972.
