Mexican Ambassador pays farewell courtesy call



The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, this morning, received a farewell courtesy call from His Excellency José Hurtado Contreras, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mexico to Guyana.

Minister Todd expressed his appreciation for the leadership and work realized by the outgoing Ambassador in advancing bilateral relations between the two countries during his two-year tenure in Guyana.

The Foreign Minister also noted the fruitful discussions held between His Excellency, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and His Excellency, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico, within the framework of the Sixth Summit of Heads of State, which was convened by the Government of Mexico in September.

Guyana and Mexico established diplomatic relations on March 1, 1973. Bilateral relations were further strengthened through the establishment of the Embassy of Mexico in Georgetown in February 2009.
