The UN Secretary-General, His Excellency Antonio Guterres, in his opening remarks, issued a warning on the abuse of social media and hate speech. He touched on several other global issues, including climate change and climate finance, the cost of fuel, rising food prices, and the urgent need of achieving the SDGs through cooperation. President Ali is scheduled to address the 77th UNGA on Wednesday, September 21.This year’s UNGA is being held under the theme, “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges”. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd and the Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN, Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues; Foreign Secretary Robert Persaud and Director of Projects at the Office of the President, Mrs. Marcia Nadir-Sharma also attended the opening session.
