Foreign Minister Meets with Guyana’s Honorary Consuls



Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Honourable Hugh Todd, today met virtually with Guyana’s Honorary Consuls.

Among those in attendance were Mr. George Hallaq, Special Ministerial Envoy to Greece and the Middle East; Mr. Athos Stylianou, Honorary Consul in Cyprus; Mr. Dario Lama, Honorary Consul in the Dominican Republic; Ms. Deniece Alleyne, Honorary Consul in St. Kitts & Nevis; Mr. Erol Makzume, Honorary Consul in Turkey; Mr. Hugh Saul, Honorary Consul in Belize; Mr. Joseph D’Oliveira, Honorary Consul in the Phillippines; Mr. Nabil Bahu, Honorary Consul in Greece; Mr. Patrick Husain, Honorary Consul in Venezuela; Mr. Per Ekland, Honorary Consul in Sweden; and Mr. Nigel Russell, Honorary Consul in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Minister Todd briefed the Honorary Consuls on the priorities of Guyana’s Foreign Diplomacy agenda and urged them to pay keen attention to statements issued by the President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, which outline Guyana’s policy direction for social and economic advancement.

The Honorary Consuls also received an overview of the Guyana- Venezuela Border Controversy and the International Court of Justice (ICJ) process from Mr. Carl Greenidge, Agent and Advisor to the Minister on Borders.

During the meeting, the Honorary Consuls provided briefs on their efforts to further Guyana’s national interests. Some of their endeavors include assisting Guyanese living aboard with various matters and exploring investment opportunities for Guyana.

In closing, Minister Todd implored the Honorary Consuls to continue to play their part in enhancing bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.
