Foreign Minister continues relief efforts to families of fishermen

The Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today continued relief efforts in Georgetown, as he met with the families of the fisherfolk recently detained in Venezuela.

The Foreign Minister, conveyed the sentiments of President of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, as he handed over hampers to the families on behalf of the Head of State.

Minister Todd empathized with the families and expressed his understanding of their circumstances, given that the bread-winners of their respective families were away for two weeks longer than expected.

The distribution was a continuation of the relief effort for the fishermen’s families which started in Charity on the Essequibo Coast, earlier today. The 12 fishermen and their vessels, the Lady Nayera and Sea Wolf, are expected in Guyana on Saturday, February 6.
