Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the situation in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem (09.06.2022)

Following yesterday’s ruling of the Supreme Court of Israel regarding an appeal by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, we express our deep concern about the situation developing in the Christian quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.
As has been repeatedly emphasized, caring for the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, and the strengthening and preservation of the Holy Shrines, constitutes a field of ongoing activity for Greece.
Our country is in constant coordination with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem to defend and safeguard its privileges and rights, including property rights.
