Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ announcement on the mutual suspension of tariffs between the EU and the U.S.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the U.S. President, Joe Biden, agreed to the mutual suspension of additional 25% tariffs. The Greek export sectors exempted from the additional tariffs are canned peaches and mixed fruits, dairy products – feta and yoghurt in particular – and pork and shellfish products. The value of our exports in these categories amounts to approximately €60 million, and this development is expected to have a positive impact on these exports.

The additional tariffs were imposed by decision of the World Trade Organization, in the context of the Airbus-Boeing aircraft construction disputes.

Both the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Openness, Kostas Fragogiannis, and the Secretary General for International Economic Affairs, Ioannis Smyrlis, are pursuing the complete abolition of import tariffs within the next four months through the exercising of economic diplomacy within the framework of the ongoing Greek-U.S. Strategic Dialogue.
