Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to visit Senegal and Cape Verde (23-24 February 2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, in the context of Greeceā€™s active engagement in Sub-Saharan Africa, will travel on February 23 and 24, 2022 to Senegal and Cape Verde. This is the first visit of a Greek Foreign Minister to these countries of West Africa. During his stay, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will hold a series of bilateral meetings with senior officials.

In Senegal, on February 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be received by the President of the country, Macky Sall, and will have a meeting with his counterpart, Aissat Sall. In the course of his visit, the signing of a Memorandum on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries is scheduled to take place.

During his stay in Senegal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend the ceremony for the opening of the Greek Embassy in Dakar.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also visit the Pasteur Institute in Dakar, which cooperates with the respective Greek Institute and is expected to play a pivotal role in vaccine production. Furthermore, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will participate in a teleconference with Greek Officers of the European Mission EUTM Mali. Finally, he is expected to make a donation to support children and youth with special needs through sports, through the organization “Special Olympics Senegal”.

The following day, 24 February 2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will travel to Cape Verde, where he is expected to be received by the President, JosƩ Maria Neves and the Prime Minister, JosƩ Ulisses Correia e Silva. Mr. Dendias will also have a meeting with his counterpart, Rui Figueiredo Soares, as well as with the President of the National Assembly, Austelino Tavares Correia. In the course of his visit, the signing of a Memorandum on Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries is scheduled to take place, as well.

Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to make a donation to a UNICEF programme for the support of the “Nȏs Kaza” Centers (Day Centers) aiming at the social and educational integration of vulnerable groups.
