Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias to attend the EU-Egypt Association Council (Luxembourg, 19. 06.2022) and the EU Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg, 20.06.2022)

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias will travel tomorrow, Sunday, 19 June 2022, to Luxembourg to participate in the 9th Meeting of the EU-Egypt Association Council.Under “Current Affairs”, recent developments, including the EU’s relations with the Gulf countries and Jordan, are expected to be examined.Prior to the opening of the Council’s proceedings, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will attend an informal working breakfast of EU Foreign Ministers with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, to discuss the Red Cross’ activities in Ukraine.Subsequently, EU Foreign Ministers will discuss the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the latest developments in the Horn of Africa and Egypt and exchange views with their Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry over an informal working lunch.Under the same heading, the Minister of Foreign Affairs is expected to brief his counterparts on the ongoing escalation of Turkish unlawful and provocative conduct.Greece attaches great importance to the constantly developing relations, between the EU and Egypt, with the latter constituting a strategic partner of our country with a key role in the wider Mediterranean region. The agenda of the Association Council’s plenary session includes an exchange of views on the implementation and prospects for enhanced dialogue and cooperation in the framework of the EU Priorities in Egypt, while the endorsement of the new EU-Egypt Partnership Priorities for the period 2021-2027 is planned. The following day, Monday, June 20 2022, the Minister will participate in the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will also take place in Luxembourg.
Lastly, the Minister will brief his counterparts on his recent tour of the Western Balkans, as well as on the results of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) Summit, which was held in Thessaloniki (10 June 2022).
