Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement to Greek journalists following his contacts in Pristina (Pristina, 08.06.2022)

I had a very interesting visit today in Pristina, as part of my tour of the Western Balkans.
I met with the President, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Chief Negotiator, as well as with the Kosovar Prime Minister.
The issues we discussed were interconnectivity, energy interconnectivity, but also the future and stability of the Western Balkans. I believe that the major stake for the Greek Government, the Mitsotakis Government, has always been peace, stability, and the European path, and it is along this line we are moving.
JOURNALIST: In recent days, Minister, there has been a barrage of provocative statements by Turkish officials. Yesterday’s remarks by your Turkish counterpart were particularly provocative. What is your comment, what is your response?
N. DENDIAS: I believe that harsh rhetoric and provocative statements are not helpful. What the Turkish side should do is to refrain from such statements. They should ensure that there is calm, and that our relations are conducted within the framework of International Law, International Law of the Sea and respect for the territorial integrity of states. I believe this is a course of action that could prove helpful. One more thing: I have always had the impression that a significant part of Turkish society looks forward to their country pursuing a European path. I hope that the Turkish Government also shares Turkish society’s desire and will act and express itself accordingly.
