Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ statement at the NATO Foreign Ministerial (Brussels, 23.03.2021)

«I attended today the NATO Ministerial, where we welcomed the new American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and I had the opportunity for my first brief encounter with him.
Also, we had the chance to discuss issues having to do with our common security. Especially Afghanistan and Libya. It was for me an opportunity to express Greece’s view on what should be done on those two very important issues.

Apart from that, we discussed the 2030 agenda of NATO. It is again an opportunity for me to express Greece’s opinion that NATO is a values-oriented Alliance and an Alliance that relies on a rules-based society. This for us is of utmost importance.

Also, issues such as climate change and resilience were addressed in a satisfactory manner.

We are looking forward to the next Ministerial, where we could enhance further the discussion on the NATO 2030 agenda, which will bring forward the Summit of June 2021. »
