Declaration by the Ministry of International Affairs regarding issues associated with the Muslim Minority associated with Thrace (08. 12. 2022)

The statement speaks for itself.
We hope that this indisputable truth of the numbers will serve as a springboard for Turkey to finally think about its responsibilities in the area of minority policy.
It is at the very least an oxymoron for a nation with a quite poor report on human rights issues to accuse Greece of violating the rights of the Muslim Minority in Thrace.
And they demonstrate within the most striking way who will be actually implementing the Lausanne Treaty and who is seeking a minority policy that will respects human rights.
Turkey once again distorts reality in Thrace.
As well as the numbers speak for themselves.
All of us call on Turkey, instead of delivering human rights lessons, in order to “put its house within order” and implement procedures that will give new living and dynamism to the Ancient greek minority there.
It is amazing how it invokes Lausanne and speaks of its breach by Greece, when within Istanbul, Gökçeada (Imbros), and Bozcaada (Tenedos), the Greek Minority numbers less than a few, 000 people, whereas at the time of the signing of the Treaty it numbered around 140, 000.
A Minority, which numbers approximately 120, 000 members, exactly the same number as when the Treaty of Lausanne was signed, which Turkey systematically creates.
This reality was recently reminded by the EU’s statement on the 77th UN General Set up “on past discriminatory guidelines implemented by Turkey, which resulted in the Greek Group in Turkey currently being on the verge of extinction”.
Greece, being a modern European democracy, pursues a coherent minority policy that promotes the Minority’s welfare.
