Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the organization by Greece and the United States of America of the International Conference “Our Ocean Conference” in 2024 (08.06.2022)

On the occasion of World Ocean Day, Greece, in cooperation with the United States of America, announces the organization of the ninth International Conference “Our Ocean Conference”, which will take place in our country in 2024.This conference was first organized in 2014 and was an initiative of the then US Secretary of State and current US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, John Kerry.The organization of this Conference was at the focus of the meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias and Mr. Kerry in Washington D.C. on May 17.The conference is expected to examine ways to address the impacts of climate change, overfishing and marine pollution.Both interested states and non-governmental organizations will be represented at the Conference with the goal of making commitments on the protection the seas.The protection and preservation of the marine environment is a separate chapter of the UN Convention on the International Law of the Sea (Chapter 12), the respect of which constitutes a fundamental principle of our country.
