Alternative Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ statement upon arrival at the EU General Affairs Council (GAC) (Brussels, 13. 12. 2022)

Furthermore, referring to the impending decisions on the energy problems, Mr. Varvitsiotis stated that the proposals tabled by Portugal for institutional interventions, such as the imposition of a price cap on natural gas, are still for the negotiating table because they have the support of 14 additional member states.
“We need to send the information that candidate countries like Turkey cannot threaten EUROPEAN member states with missile attacks”, underscored Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis today upon appearance at the EU General Affairs Council meeting in Brussels, whose agenda includes the particular Commission’s report on the results on enlargement, which furthermore concerns Turkey.
Lastly, Mr. Varvitsiotis emphasized the importance of “completing the analysis on transparency in the decisions of the European Parliament the moment possible”, noting that “recent revelations have affected the prestige” and stressed the necessity of making decisions on the advertising and promotion of MEPs so as to ensure maximum visibility.
