Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs Miltiadis Varvitsiotis’ statement upon arrival at the EU General Affairs Council (Luxembourg, 18.10.2022)

At the same time, Mr. Varvitsiotis pointed out that “the war in Ukraine continues to rage, with civilians, everyday people, now being attacked, shelled in their cities and in their homes”. “That is why Europe must continue to support Ukraine in the same firm manner and declare in every direction that this war must end. We will do everything possible to achieve this”, the Alternate Minister underlined. He also stated that the energy crisis we are experiencing and the unprecedented increase in prices are the consequence of the war and Russia’s instrumentalization of energy sources.
“Today we will fight for the obvious. Europe must act, it must stop talking and finally move on to action”, underlined Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis upon his arrival at the EU General Affairs Council in Luxembourg today. “There is a draft of proposals for the European Council which we believe is in the right direction,” Mr. Varvitsiotis stated, adding that 15 EU member states have already embraced the relevant proposals tabled by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “Europe will not once again stand idle in the face of the great challenge of addressing energy sufficiency, rising prices and the spike in inflation that is currently affecting every European household”, the Alternate Minister underscored.
