In her opening remarks, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, recalled and acknowledged the existing bond of friendship between Ghana and Kenya dating back to the era of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and President Jomo Kenyatta. The Honourable Minister noted that this year marks the attainment of a remarkable feat of sixty-one (61) years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She added that “Our bond of friendship has remained steadfast, leading to fruitful collaboration across diverse sectors, including politics, economics, tourism, culture, and humanitarian spheres”.
The Ministerial Session of the Second Ghana- Kenya Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) was held in Accra on Tuesday, 2nd April, 2024.
On his part, H.E. Musalia Mudavadi commended the technical teams from the two countries for their hard work and dedication during the deliberations at the Senior Officials session. He further expressed Kenya’s readiness to expand cooperation with Ghana in diverse areas and was hopeful that the Ministerial session would further solidify the bilateral cooperation between Kenya and Ghana.
On matters concerning trade and investment, Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey urged the business communities of Ghana and Kenya to establish joint ventures and explore opportunities within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The Agreed Minutes of the Ghana-Kenya Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation was signed by the two Foreign Ministers.
The discussions were led by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary/Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, H.E. Dr. Musalia Mudavadi.
