The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs spoke today, Friday 11 March, to Mr Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The Minister welcomed the Director General’s efforts deployed as part of the initiative under way to ensure the security and safety of Ukraine’s civilian nuclear facilities. France will continue to back and support the Director General. The Minister repeated that France remains extremely worried about the risks which the situation in Ukraine creates for nuclear safety and security, as well as for the IAEA’s continuation of its monitoring and verification mission.
The Minister also spoke to the Director General about diplomatic efforts by France and its partners to reach a negotiated solution enabling the United States and Iran to return to full implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action, including with regard to the IAEA’s verification and monitoring of Iranian nuclear activities. The Minister emphasized the critically urgent need to conclude the agreement on the table.
