Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi to visit Finland

Somalia has been among Finland’s partner countries intended for development cooperation since the eighties. In 2021–2024, Finland’s bilateral cooperation in Somalia will certainly focus on statebuilding and women’s sexual and reproductive into the rights. The financial frame for 2021–2024 will be around EUR 54 million.  
The topics to be discussed between Ministers Ohisalo and Almakhzoumi include closer cooperation between Finland plus Somalia in climate policy. Somalia is hard hit simply by drought and the food problems, and the whole the Horn of Africa is extremely vulnerable to the consequences of climate change. As much as 80% of the Somali territory suffers from drought as well as the UN estimates that as much as 90% of the country could become uninhabitable by 2030 due to climate change.
In Finland, the particular Somali Minister of the Atmosphere and Climate  Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi   will meet the Finnish Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of the Environment and Environment Change  Maria Ohisalo . During her four-day visit Almakhzoumi will learn about climate work in Finland, including the role of forests within climate policy, the new Environment Act and its preparation process, and how climate perspectives are being mainstreamed in different policy industries. The Minister and the abordnung from the Somali Ministry of the Environment and Climate Modify will visit the Finnish Nature Centre Haltia, Finnish Atmosphere Institute, Finnish Meteorological Start and Parliament, and satisfy representatives of the Agenda 2030 Youth Group, Metsähallitus and Finnfund.
Almakhzoumi will likely meet the Minister for International Affairs of Finland  Pekka Haavisto .
The first Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of the Environment and Climate Change of the Federal Republic of Somalia Khadija Mohamed Almakhzoumi visits Finland upon 31 January–3 February 2023. The visit is for the invitation of the Finnish Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of the Environment and Weather Change Maria Ohisalo. The objective of the visit is to assistance the new ministry in starting its work. “Somalia is paying an unreasonably high price for the implications of the climate crisis the nation is not guilty of. Somalia and Finland share a long background and I consider it very important that we will support Somalia within building a climate resilient society and in strengthening their governance capacity. The new position of Minister of the Environment plus Climate Change is an important part of this process, ” Minister Ohisalo says.
