Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to visit Senegal

In Dakar, Foreign Minister Haavisto can meet members of Senegal’s National Assembly and associates of research institutes, worldwide organisations and civil modern society organisations. They will discuss the situation in Senegal and more broadly in West Africa and the Sahel region.
The conferences will focus on bilateral relations between Finland and Senegal as well as topical international questions. Finland opened an embassy in Dakar in 2022. It is Finland’s first embassy in the French-speaking West Africa.
Minister for Foreign Matters Pekka Haavisto will visit the capital of Senegal, Dakar, from 2 to 3 January. Within Dakar, he will meet Senegalese Foreign Minister Aïssata High Sall and other state frontrunners.
During his visit, Foreign Minister Haavisto will inaugurate Finland’s Embassy in Dakar.
“It is important that Finland has closer relations with West Africa. We are affected by developments in the region, which also offers many opportunities for cooperation. Senegal is a crucial partner for Finland and for the EU in western Africa, ” says Ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) for Foreign Affairs Haavisto.
