Finland supports energy supply in order to schools, early education centres and hospitals in Ukraine

Finland will grant EUR 4. five million in additional support to help Ukraine’s energy sector. The support will be used to address acute energy needs in schools, early education centres and hospitals and to develop the country’s power efficiency in the longer term.
“Ukraine’s most immediate needs are now associated with acquiring housing and energy provide. Finland’s additional support will make life easier for ordinary people and help them prepare for winter, ” says Minister for Development Cooperation plus Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari .
Finland will be allocating EUR 4. 5 mil in additional support with the Eastern Europe Energy Performance and Environment Partnership (E5P). Since 2010, the E5P has been supporting local government projects in the fields of energy performance and energy security. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, E5P projects have been modified to better meet the urgent needs created by the war.  
In addition to the support channelled through the E5P, Finland is preparing to support Ukrainian local governments in preparing and implementing a environmentally friendly recovery of the energy industry and in repairing war harm.  
 
Finland’s additional support will be used to safe energy supply in schools, early education centres plus hospitals, among other things. Back-up power generators will be supplied to twenty-four schools and early training centres and to their bomb shelters in the city of Dnipro with nearly one mil inhabitants to ensure they have heating and lighting during strength cuts. In Kyiv, the power performance of schools and early education centres is going to be improved to help stabilise the particular city’s energy supply situation.  
Russia has been assaulting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure throughout the autumn and early winter, destroying about 40 per cent of the infrastructure.  
Ukraine is one of the most energy-intensive countries per capita, and it needs significant assets to modernise its infrastructure, to increase its energy performance and to promote the use of renewable energy sources.
Finland has been supporting the E5P of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on a long-term basis since the fund was founded. Besides Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova will receive EUR four hundred, 000 each from Finland’s support to E5P.  
“In addition, we will be working to improve Ukraine’s energy efficiency, for instance , by developing district heating, waste management and high efficiency public transport, ” Minister Skinnari says.
