DECLARATION BY PRIME MINISTER SITIVENI RABUKA ON THE RESIGNATION ASSOCIATED WITH JACINDA ARDERN AS BEST MINISTER OF NEW ZEALAND

I join with many other people in paying tribute in order to Ms Jacinda Ardern that has resigned as Prime Minister of New Zealand.
In just more than five years in office Ms Ardern consolidated Brand new Zealand’s relationships with Fiji and other island states. This particular came at a time when the Pacific was becoming increasingly important in international affairs.
Ms Ardern’s charisma and humility provided her a natural empathy along with Pacific islanders. On an official visit to Fiji in 2020 Ms Ardern made an immediate impression. When we had been coming to grips with forming a government in December, Ms Ardern offered New Zealand’s assistance to facilitate the democratic process, if this was required.
I personally appreciated this motion. At a perform for the Women’s Crisis Centre’s new office in Nadi she surprised and endeared herself to a group of shy Fijian women when the lady took on the role associated with tea lady. As the New Zealand Prime Minister offered them she gave a guarantee that she was used to it and did it all the time at home in New Zealand. He mentioned in particular immediate and timely help for your Fijian people during national disasters and the COVID-19 outbreak. I will be writing a official letter to him. She will be kept in mind in Fiji and the Pacific cycles with utmost respect and admiration. Our Government looks forward to forging a strong relationship with Mr Philip Hipkins who is set to turn out to be Ms Ardern’s successor as Prime Minister. I praise Ms Ardern’s recognition that for her the time had arrive at hand over the burden of the prime ministerial office. Ms Ardern was in Fiji again last year for the 51st meeting associated with leaders of the Pacific Island destinations Forum.
Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad has already publicly thanked Ms Ardern for New Zealand’s help Fiji during her moments of leadership.
