The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) will host the first roundtable bringing youth climate activists and representatives of youth organisations together with high-level EU decision-makers to discuss EU policies on climate and sustainability. The aim of the roundtable is to make recommendations on EU climate action and to ensure the follow-up of its implementation by youth organisations.
Frans Timmermans, European Commissioner for climate and executive vice-president, will take part in this first youth assembly, in a direct open dialogue with 10 young climate activists who will be able to give input on crucial issues related to climate action.
The event will also serve to explore the possibility of setting up a permanent structure for youth roundtables, which could be organised twice a year, ensuring rotation and inclusive representation of invited or nominated youth activists. The EESC would act as facilitator, hosting and contributing to those roundtables.
