Impairment due to ageing, disability or illness can place people in situations of vulnerability, requiring appropriate legal protections. The free movement of protected persons must be accompanied by the recognition by all Member States of the legal decisions protecting these persons.

In a context of globalisation of trade and movements of populations, professionals are increasingly finding themselves confronted with practical difficulties, with regard to the protection of persons as well as the administration of their property. In many cases, these vulnerable adults may have travelled outside their country of origin to retire or to receive care in specialised establishments. They may also hold assets in multiple Member States.

This event will be held to assess the situation and re-examine the Hague Convention of 13 January 2000 on the International Protection of Adults in order to identify potential improvements to existing measures within the EU.
