European Economic and Social Committee,

Business, taxation and competition,

The COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent huge global leap to digitalisation has put the taxation of companies in the spotlight of public debate. The international policy debate on taxation in the 21st century reflects the urgent need to agree on and implement fundamental reforms.

Both the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the UN Committee of experts on tax matters are working to find a globally acceptable solution.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) aspires to contribute to the debate by co-organising with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) a virtual joint public debate on ‘Taxing multinationals in Europe’.

This virtual debate will bring together the IMF, OECD, EC, EESC and other key stakeholders in the area of taxation.

On this occasion, the IMF will officially present its report ‘Taxing multinationals in Europe’.
