As the host of the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) the Minister for Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs will be convening 46 ministers, vice-ministers and high-ranking government officials from all over the world together with leaders of international organisations and top leaders of private companies for a high-level meeting in Copenhagen. The purpose of the high-level segment is to strengthen the international cooperation on anti-corruption at political level.
The conference will take place in Copenhagen on 22-24th of October in cooperation with Transparency International and the IACC Council and is expected to be attended by more than 1,200 participants. IACC is a recurring event held approximately every second year with changing host countries. As a new feature, Denmark has taken the initiative to convene a high-level segment on the first day of the conference.
Minister for Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs states:
“Corruption is a fundamental barrier to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Corruption is a global challenge that requires international cooperation. My ambition with the high-level segment is to elevate the fight against corruption to a higher political level and put action behind the words.”
The high-level participants are expected to come to Copenhagen with statements, on what concrete actions they will be implementing over the coming years at national or organizational level. The purpose is not necessarily to come up with new promises, but first and foremost to put concrete action behind words and implement promisesmade in the past.
Ulla Tørnæs states:
”It is often the most vulnerable groups, who are affected the most by corruption. They do not need new promises. They need results and for decision makers to deliver on promises already made.”
The high-level segment will endorse a joint statement, reflecting agreement on the most pressing challenges. It will also emphasize the necessity of intensifying the fight against corruption individually and collectively.
Ulla Tørnæs states:
”It is my hope that gathering leaders and key decision-makers under the same roof as activists, experts, NGO’s and journalists will become a model for the future international cooperation in the global fight against corruption. The challenges posed by corruption are complex and requires a multi-stakeholder approach. In Copenhagen we will build a broad global coalition against corruption. I hope that future IACCs will continue this approach and build on the momentum that will be createdin Copenhagen.

Facts about the IACC
• Opening: The conference will open with speeches by Danish Prime Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, Danish Minister for Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs, and other international leaders.
• High-level segment: This year, the IACC will feature a high-level segment, where 46 ministers, vice-ministers and high-ranking government officials together with leaders of international organisations and private companies will come together to discuss strategies for the international cooperation on anti-corruption. Participants are expected to present concrete action plans.
• Participants: For the IACC participants from government institutions, researchers, media and representatives from civil society and private sector will meet to discuss corruption and find solutions on how to fight corruption.
• Events: More than 70 events will take place as part of IACC. These include anti-corruption related workshops, movie screenings and more.
• Fair Play concert: Tuesday 23 October at 7pm, the Fair Play live concert event will take place at music venue Vega in Copenhagen. Fair Play is a global movement of music against corruption, created by young, engaged and creative artists from around the world.
• Films 4 Transparency: The film festival Films 4 Transparency will take place from the 20-25 October. The festival will include movies that go behind corruption, inequality and injustice around the world.
