Denmark number one in development cooperation

The index ranks 27 of the world’s richest countries in terms of efforts to generate development in poor countries. The ranking is based on the assessment of seven policy areas: development assistance, trade, finance, migration, technology, security and the environment. This means that Denmark is at the top – both in terms of development cooperation and other policies that affect developing countries. The analysis is conducted by the independent think tank Center for Global Development.

The think tank points particular at Denmark being one of the few countries that meets the UN recommendation to provide a minimum of 0.7% of GNI in development assistance – but equally important: the quality of Danish development cooperation is also at its peak.

It is emphasized, that Denmark provides significant support for the world’s poorest countries, and that Denmark ensures transparent reporting of aid. Denmark has also excelled in security policy matters as an important contributor to international peacekeeping missions and humanitarian efforts.

The Minister for Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs says:

“I am pleased that Denmark’s development cooperation has such a great ranking. Our ranking as number one shows that we make a concrete and visible contribution to a more free, rich and secure world. With the new strategy for development policy and humanitarian action, “The World 2030”, we are geared for the future – with an increased focus on the rights of women and girls, the inclusion of young people in society, more growth and more jobs, as well as strengthened efforts in regions neighboring countries affected by conflict and displacement.”
