The Vice President of the National Assembly of People’s Power of the Republic of Cuba, Ana María Mari Machado, and the Vice President of the European Parliament, Dimitrios Papadimoulis, ratified their willingness to continue strengthening relations between both parties, based on mutual respect and cooperation, during a working exchange held this Friday in virtual format.
In her speech, Mari Machado thanked the support and recent pronouncements of the Greek MEP in favor of the elimination of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States Government against Cuba, as well as his condemnation of the inclusion of Cuba country in the spurious US list of states sponsors of terrorism and its recognition of the solidarity work of Cuban health personnel in the fight against COVID-19.
“In the midst of the complex international situation, due to the pandemic, the blockade against our people has intensified and 243 measures applied by the previous US administration remain in force,” said the Vice President of the Cuban Parliament.
In this sense, Dimitrios Papadimoulis reiterated his permanent support for the struggle to lift the blockade. «Cuba has made significant achievements in various sectors for 60 years. I am sure that, with the end of the blockade, they will continue to achieve success, ” he stressed.
Both parties – by reiterating their willingness to continue deepening interparliamentary relations, in correspondence with the accompaniment to the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Cuba, and the principles of International Law – recognized the work carried out by the Informal Friendship Group with our country and its broad job prospects.
In the virtual exchange also participated the deputy Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power, and the ambassadors of our Cuba in Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, Norma Goicochea Estenoz, and in Greece, Zelmys María Domínguez Cortina.
