London, February 18th, 2021 – The soft launch of the Caribbean Research and Innovation Collaboration for Knowledge Exchange and Transfer (CRICKET CIC) took place today. This Community Interest Company (CIC, non-profit organization), founded on August 13th, 2020, aims to facilitate collaboration between researchers from the UK and the Caribbean, as a contribution towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
According to its founders, CRICKET is committed to establishing partnerships for knowledge co-production in order to complement the efforts made by established researchers and organizations in the UK and the Caribbean and to fostering networking in order to seize funding opportunities for the priority projects identified by their Caribbean partners. In addition, in the case of Cuba, CRICKET’s goal is to develop cooperation in all areas including engineering and natural sciences, and to help it benefit from financing opportunities, international engagement and dissemination of results of the work conducted by Cuban academics and researchers.
The launch, moderated by CRICKET’s directors, Dr. Emily Morris, from the University College of London, and Dr. Lauren Collins, from the University of Nottingham, was attended, among others, by Jorge Peña, full professor of the Faculty of Architecture at CUJAE and Head of the Urban Research and Action Group, Dr. Par Kumaraswami, Director of the University of Nottingham’s Cuba Research Forum, and Michel Rodríguez, First Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in London.
