Tribute to Martí in Greece

Athens, May 19. On this day that marks the 126th anniversary of the death of José Martí Perez, the online projection of the biographical film “The eye of the canary” will take place, referring to the childhood and youth of Martí, when the essential values were formed of his revolutionary personality, of fighting for justice, for the freedom of Cuba, against slavery and inequality of men, among others.
José Martí Perez is a national hero of Cuba. He was a poet, writer, translator, educator, journalist and fighter for the independence of Cuba. He has also been called the Apostle of Independence, due to his decisive role in the struggle of the Cuban people against the yoke of Spanish colonialism.
The film, a Cuba-Spain co-production, directed by the famous Cuban director Fernando Pérez, was subtitled in Greek by the José Martí Cultural Association of solidarity with Cuba, in an attempt to also highlight the work and personality of José Martí in Greece.
