The leadership of the Communist Party in Denmark (Kpid) issued a statement signed by its President, Rikke Carlsson, against the maneuvering of a group of deputies in the European Parliament.
The party leader urges all Danish members in the European Chamber not to join this action and to speak out against a demonstration harmful to the Cuban people amid the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba.
To the Danish members of the EU Parliament
Today, June 8, the European Parliament will consider a proposal condemning the alleged human rights abuses in Cuba.
First of all, it is probably not something that the European Parliament should consider until the EU itself has ensured that human rights are respected in the EU. Therefore, the EU should first do something serious with countries like Poland and Hungary!
Second, there is a difference in what is meant by human rights.
In Cuba, human rights mean not only the right to think freely, but also the right to housing, food, a free health system, free education, etc.
In this context, it must be understood that it is not Cuba that is repressing any human right, but the United States, which with its blockade of Cuba is doing everything possible to destabilize the Cuban people.
While Cuba sends the corona vaccine to the world to help other countries, the United States maintains a tight economic blockade against an overwhelming majority of countries in the UN and, therefore, the country finds serious effects on the products that are used for the production of vaccines and medicines.
That is why we urge all Danish members of the European Parliament to stand aside from this project, and to speak out strongly against the attempt to harm Cuba with false accusations of human rights violations.
