The National Assembly of People’s Power held a parliamentary hearing against the blockade

05/28/2021
The National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP) held a parliamentary hearing on Friday for the lifting of the blockade. “Cuba facing two pandemics”, this meeting was named, called by the commissions of International Relations, Constitutional and Legal Affairs, and Health and Sports of the Cuban legislature.
As reported by the Cuban Parliament on its official Facebook page, the meeting was attended by the member of the Political Bureau and president of the ANPP, Esteban Lazo Hernández, as well as other deputies and guests, who denounced the effects of this genocidal policy imposed by the US government for more than six decades against our people, and for the sake of their final elimination.
Likewise, parliamentarians and personalities from other nations ratified their solidarity with our country in this fight.
During the hearing at the Havana Capitol, the institutional headquarters of the legislature, Deputy Alberto Núñez Betancourt read the Call of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly in which he “thanked all parliaments, parliamentary groups, organizations, entities and individuals that in any part of the world have spoken in recent months in favor of the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, and express their recognition of the support that practically all the governments of the world provide each year to the A claim made by the United Nations General Assembly to put an end to this cruel and illegitimate policy, “he said.
The document also confirms that the blockade constitutes the most comprehensive, unequal and prolonged economic war that has ever been applied against any nation. It violates International Law and the purposes and principles set forth in the Charter of the United Nations and is considered a morally unsustainable policy, which qualifies as an act of genocide.
The appeal adds that this policy is directed against well-being, social stability and the satisfaction of the most basic needs of all Cubans. It imposes significant obstacles to the country’s development potential and deprives the nation of important financial and material resources necessary for the daily management of the economy, the provision of essential services, and the vitality of the country as a whole.
This Parliamentary Hearing was broadcast live from 10:00 am, through the official accounts on social networking sites of the National Assembly of People’s Power: in Spanish through the Facebook page (National Assembly Cuba) and in English through the YouTube channel (National Assembly Cuba).
