The Medical Collaboration in Cuba, an example of humanism and Internationalism for the World

As part of the celebrations in Guyana that has been taking place in this country since 12th November for the starting to the new normalcy, the personnel of the Embassy of Cuba, the Coordinators of the Cuban Medical Brigade (BMC), and Cuban residents, held a ceremony in homage to the leader of the Revolution, Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, and the ideas emanating from his concept that “The future of Our Homeland must necessarily be made up of Men of Sciences, of Men of ideas.”

The Ambassador of Cuba, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro, when making use of the opening words, highlighted the meaning of the transition to the new normality in Cuba, such as the beginning of the school year, the opening of tourism, as well as, the work of the BMC in Guyana.

Dr. Ineldo Ruiz Arcia, head of the Cuban Medical Brigade to Guyana, in his remarks, recounted the beginnings of medical collaboration in this country and the world as: Misión Barrio Adentro in 2003, Miracle Operation in 2004, Constitution of the Henry Reeve Brigade in 2005, Earthquake in Pakistan in 2005, Cholera in Haiti 2010, More Doctors for Brazil 2013, and Earthquake in Ecuador in 2016 among others.

He also emphasized that more than 400 seven thousand health professionals and technicians, of which more than 183 thousand 338 doctors have fulfilled the honorable mission of saving lives in more than 164 countries.

He told about the experiences lived during his activity as an internationalist and executive of this sector in different countries of Africa and Latin America.

He added that the activities taking place at this time by the BMC in coordination with the Embassy in Guyana has had broad participation of health collaborators, Guyanese friends in solidarity, Cuban residents, members of the Medical Brigades in each of the regions, and diplomatic officials and Embassy workers.

The activity concluded with an audiovisual presentation on the history and results of Cuban medical cooperation in Guyana by Dr. Grechel Chaveco Bautista, in charge of BMC medical assistance.
