SWAPO Whip in the Namibian National Assembly ratifies support for Cuba.

Namibia, November 9th, 2021- Hon. Mr. Hamunyera Hambyuka, SWAPO Whip in the National Assembly of Namibia, received in Aldo Luis Fuentes, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Cuba, at the headquarters of this legislative body.

The Cuban diplomat discussed the reopening of Cuba, starting on November 15th, with the resumption of the academic year, the reactivation of the tourism sector and other economic areas, as part of the path towards normalization of the country.

Fuentes also highlighted the high level of Cuban science, demonstrated with the development of three vaccines and the presentation of two other vaccine candidates against COVID-19. This fact and the low numbers of daily cases of coronavirus led to the measures explained above, he added.

On the other hand, he thanked Namibia’s continued support for Cuba against the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States. In this regard, he referred to the most recent speech by President Hage Geingob at the United Nations General Assembly, where, once again, he condemned this genocidal US policy and called on President Joe Biden to resume dialogue with Cuba.

In this context, the Chargé d’Affaires a.i. pointed out the tightening of the blockade and its impact on the economy and the standard of living of the Cuban population, through the 243 new measures implemented by the Trump Administration, 50 of them approved in the midst of the difficult situation caused by COVID-19 and still in force.

On his part, Hambyuka condemned the US blockade and reaffirmed the unconditional support of his people, party and government for the Cuban cause. He also highlighted the excellent level of historical relations between the two countries.

The Namibian leader thanked the information provided and indicated that he would share these updates in a future meeting with Hon. Mrs. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Vice President of the SWAPO, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Namibia.
