Lift the Blockade to Ease Food Shortages in Cuba

The entire world should reject the hypocritical statements of US President Biden, former State Secretary Pompeo, Senator Marco Rubio on the food shortages in Cuba.  They don’t really care for the well-being of the Cuban people.  The US’s economic, commercial and financial blockade for 60 years is the real cause of Cuba’s problems.

The Kilusan sa Pambansang Demokrasya, (Kilusan for brevity) an anti-imperialist and democratic movement in the Philippines, decries the statements of the US politicians that pretend to talk of concern for the Cuban people, now experiencing hunger and a high rate of covid-19 contagion.

Some Cubans took to the streets last Sunday shouting “Freedom, food and vaccines.”  The US mainstream media became electrified mostly blaming the socialist government.

Cuba experiences food shortages every now and then for the past 60 years as US policies prohibit Cuba from having business transactions with the US and other countries that do business with Cuba are also punished.  The pandemic has worsened these shortages.

The US has not loosened its grip on the blockade, not even during this period when Cubans need humanitarian help for food, health and medical supplies.  While Cuba has produced vaccines and other medicines against Covid-19, they don’t have enough syringes, hence the delay in vaccinating people.

To worsen the situation, the US government, through USAID and agents have been increasing the funding of local agents to magnify the difficulty and deflect the blame from the blockade to the “dictatorial regime.”

The American people who really care for the Cuban people should demand their government to remove all the barriers to Cuba’s survival and development the US calls embargo.  The Biden government should reverse all the laws and sanctions that make life difficult for the Cuban people.

Kilusan calls on the Filipino people to support sovereign Cuba by opposing US interventionist funding of subversive movements against its elected government.

Long live the Cuban revolution!  We have faith in the determination of the Cuban people to overcome difficulty!

More support for President Miguel Diaz-Canel and the Cuban people!
