Radio Thailand – Cuban Ambassador’s address on the 502 anniversary of the foundation of Havana

Sawasdee Krub,

Buenos días,

Good morning,

The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Thailand welcomes the 502 anniversary of the founding of the “Villa de San Cristóbal de La Habana”, known as Havana, to be commemorated in Cuba and many places of the World, on November 16, 2021, with a diverse program of activities.

We congratulate all Cubans and Thai friends for this historic event linked to the origins of the Capital City of the Cuban archipelago, Havana, which we celebrate together with the happy re-start of the on-site school year with fully vaccinated students, the reopening of economic and tourist activities and the increase in the frequency of flights to and from Cuba.

In times of the Covid-19 pandemic, Cubans honor the feat of Cuban scientists and health personnel in making Cuba the first country in Latin America and the Caribbean to develop homegrown vaccines for Covid-19 and the first country in the world to vaccinate children between the ages of 2 and 11, as of September 3rd. This extraordinary contribution, together with Cuba’s universal public healthcare system and recognized national scientific and biopharmaceutical development programs, have made it possible to successfully cope with the pandemic with a current vaccination rate of 80% of the Cuban population and gradually return to the new normality.

We are also proud of Cuba’s work in the field of Health and Education with the international community, promoting and implementing solidarity and cooperation.

Today, the historic center of Havana shows off its “World Heritage Site” status as being one of the best-preserved architectural ensembles in Latin America and the Caribbean. The whole Havana is decked out as the Wonder City of the largest of the Antilles in its 502 anniversary.

Congratulations!
