On behalf of Cuba Solidarity Forum Ireland, we wish to congratulate the Cuban people on their 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba.

In doing so, we pay tribute to your great leaders José Martí, Fidel and Raul Castro and of course Ché Guevara, who have undoubtedly provided the continuous leadership of the Cuban people throughout the decades, to enable them to face successfully, the many challenges and struggles which they have overcome withunparalleledcommitment and resilience, to become the proud and inspirational nation they are today.

We especially send our best wishes to Comrade Raul Castro who steps down at this Congress as First Secretary of the Communist Party and to President Miguel Diaz Canel, who replaces him, and for whom we, in Ireland, hold a special place in our hearts, following his unforgettable visit to our country in October 2019.

The success of the Cuban Revolution in the areas of health, education, the reduction of infant mortality, gender equality, etc. has become an aspirational beacon of light for all nations, and moreover in respect of the generous manner in which you send the invaluable medical teams from the Henry Reeve Brigade, to assist nationssuffering natural disasters, and across the globeduring this current Covid 19 pandemic, and during the Ebola outbreak in Africa. We hope that justice will prevail and that the Henry Reeve Brigade succeed in obtaining the Nobel Peace Prize next October for their unconditional dedication to humanity.

Please be assured that your country has garnered worldwide admirationand support for these great humanitarian gesturesand all this despite the current abhorrent restrictions imposed on your country by the U.S. blockade, to which we are vehemently opposed and continue to campaign against it regularly.

CSFI will continue to support your great nation in any way we possibly can, and assist you in obtaining the recognition which your people so rightly deserve.

Finally, today, we would especially like to wish your First Secretary and President a very happy birthday, and good health, joy and success in the year ahead.

In solidarity, de todo corazon,

Marie Barry
