New revelations in US on alleged sonic attacks in Cuba

Washington, 11 February 2021. The Donald Trump administration’s response to the alleged sonic attacks against the US embassy personnel in Cuba was plagued by mismanagement and poor leadership, a report reveals on Thursday.

The report belongs to the Accountability Review Board (ARB) published on the US National Security Agency (NSA) website.

This internal State Department document, classified as secret and recently declassified, highlights the lack of coordination and follow-up of the procedures established by the Secretary of State and refers to ineffective communications and systemic disorganization.

Eighteen months after strange health incidents were reported among Washington’s diplomatic personnel in Havana, ‘the mechanism of the cause of the injuries’ was still unknown, says the publication released by the NSA in its digital archives.

‘We do not know the reason for those incidents, when they really started or who did it, we do not know what happened or why,’ refers the report that was delivered in June 2018 to Mike Pompeo, Rex Tillerson’s successor as Secretary of State.

The ARB thus acknowledges that what happened at the US embassy in Havana remained a mystery.

It also criticizes the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for not sharing information about the health-related experiences of its agents in Havana in late 2016 and early 2017, which delayed the State Department’s ability to react quickly.
