May the Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism be the end of such scourge, stated Cuba at the UN

New York, 14 June 2021. Cuba participated at the debate of the Committee on Decolonization related to the information the Administering Powers must provide on the economic and social conditions of the Territories for which they are responsible, under Article 73 (e) of the Charter of the United Nations.

Ambassador Humberto Rivero Rosario, who represented Cuba, pointed out that such information is an extremely useful tool for the Committee and the Decolonization Unit of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs to make a careful, balanced and exhaustive assessment of the particular status and situation of each of the seventeen Non-Self-Governing Territories.

The administering Powers of each Territory on the agenda of the Special Committee, he expressed, are urged to cooperate fully in its work and to participate formally in its sessions and seminars.

Rivero Rosario highlighted that the beginning of the Fourth International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism demands constructive engagement, sustained efforts and political will in order to end the scourge of colonialism.
