Leaders of the South African Communist Party and Cuban Ambassador exchange on the blockade against Cuba

Pretoria, May 25, 2021.- The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa and members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) held a broad and productive virtual exchange on the criminal and illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years by the government of the United States.

During the meeting, the Cuban representative offered an update on the negative impact of the blockade on the Cuban people. Referring to international support, he referred to the vote on the resolution against the blockade that for the twenty-ninth consecutive time, will take place on June 23 at the UN General Assembly.

The participants of the South African Communist Party, led by the Secretary of International Relations Frans Baleni and the Second Deputy Secretary General Chris Mathlako, reiterated the firm support of the organization and its thousands of militants for the Cuban people and their Revolution, which they described as an “example and a beacon for the just causes of the world”.

They also ratified their unconditional support for the fight against the blockade and their commitment to achieve greater activism inside and outside South Africa in function of this noble cause.

The Ambassador thanked, on behalf of the government and people of Cuba, the international solidarity and support of the brotherly South African people for the just claim against the blockade and for the island’s right to defend its independence and sovereignty and decide its own future.
