Jamaican press praises the work of Cuban health professionals

Kingston, Jamaica, 8 February 2021.- The renowned Jamaican newspaper ‘The Observer’ published in its Sunday edition of February 7, 2021, two articles on the cooperation that Cuba provides in the Caribbean nation. The article was based on a conversation between the press and Dr. José Armando Arronte Villamarín, Head of the Cuban Medical Mission.

As highlighted in the publication, during 2020 the 492 Cuban health professionals who provide their services in most of the country’s public health institutions conducted more than 450,000 consultations; saved 8,304 lives and performed 4,300 surgeries.

The article not only reviewed the origins of Cuba’s medical cooperation in Jamaica, which began in 1976, but it also emphasized the important contribution of the Greatest Island in the Antilles to the effort made by this neighbouring Caribbean country in the fight against the pandemic. It acknowledged the results of the Cuban public health system and praised the well-known offensive of Cuba’s biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors in doing research and eventually producing vaccines against COVID-19.
