Gambian delegation travel to Cuba to participate in the 13th University 2022 Congress

Banjul, Feb 6th. – A large Gambian delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology traveled to Cuba this Sunday to participate in the 13th University 2022 Congress that will be held in Havana between February 7th and 13th.

The delegation is headed by the Director of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mucktarr M.Y Darboe, and it is made up of five other senior officials of the aforementioned body of this West African State.

The Cuban ambassador here, Rubén G. Abelenda, went to see them off at the Banjul airport, where he expressed that Gambia’s presence at Universidad 2022 will contribute to intensifying collaboration and positive relations between the two brother countries.

In this regard, the Gambian Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Badara A. Joof, and the diplomat of the Caribbean Island agreed in a meeting they held last Thursday.

In that meeting, Badara reiterated to Abelenda the interest of his government and people to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in the spheres that his ministry attends, and promised to visit Havana soon for that purpose.

He also expressed his gratitude to Cuba for the permanent collaboration with his country in the areas of health, education and others, and affirmed that the Caribbean archipelago deserves to be supported and helped by this historical altruistic behavior.

The minister stressed that the Antillean nation has been and is very supportive with the African continent, and in particular with Gambia, so that if its development prospers, our region will also advance, he assured.

He stated that if Cuba progresses, Africa will develop as well.
