Friendship Association celebrates July 26 with a caravan of cars through the streets of Windhoek and a commemorative act at the Cuban Embassy.

Namibia, July 25th, 2021- The Namibia – Cuba Friendship Association (NAMCUFA) organized a caravan of fifty vehicles through the main streets of Windhoek, capital of Namibia, to commemorate the Assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Barracks, condemn the US blockade and support Cuba in its struggle to maintain its sovereignty and independence.

The route of more than 25 kilometers culminated at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba in Namibia, where some 50 people, representing all participants, in compliance with the established sanitary regulations, expressed their support for the Cuban Revolution. The caravan traveled through Independence Avenue and Fidel Castro Street in the city center. It also toured the popular neighborhood of Katutura, where a momentary halt was held in front of the “Fidel Castro Ruz” Primary School, located in that town.

Among those present were Ambassador Sidenio Acosta and other members of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission, the executive directors of the Ministries of the Presidency and Finance, Ambassador Claudia Uushona and Ericah Shafuda respectively, Omar Barretorán Paredes, Ambassador of Venezuela, other members of that Embassy, ​​Cecilia Muzile, Secretary General of NAMCUFA, members of that solidarity organization, members of the Venezuela – Namibia Association, Cuban collaborators who provide their services in this country and a representation of the Cuban resident community.

In the simple and emotional act, Rauna Nelao, a member of the Association of Friendship with Cuba, read a statement from NAMCUFA, the second issued by the organization in the last week, where the attacks against Cuba were condemned, the solidarity role of the Caribbean nation towards the African countries was highlighted and the unconditional lifting of the US blockade against Cuba was demanded. Cecilia Muzile also used the word to reaffirm Namibia’s solidarity with Cuba.

Ambassador Sidenio Acosta, for his part, thanked for the expressions of affection and support towards the Island. He highlighted the historical importance of July 26 for Cuba and the rest of the countries of the so-called Third World. He updated the attendees on the situation in Cuba and called for continued support for “la Mayor de las Antillas”, amid a discrediting media campaign and the intensification of the blockade of the United States.

The journey of the caravan was broadcast live on the official Facebook page of the Cuban Embassy in Namibia and the personal profile, on that social network, of Ambassador Sidenio Acosta, as well as that of other participants. Similarly, both events were covered by the national television and radio network NBC.
