Economic Counsellor promotes technical assistance and commercial exchange between Namibia and Cuba.

Namibia, March 11th, 2022- Yamila Martínez, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy of Cuba in Namibia, held several work meetings with officials from Namibian institutions, to promote bilateral trade and cooperation relations between both countries.

The Cuban representative held a virtual working meeting with Mr. Franco Furab and Mr. Magnus Abraham, officials of the Namibian Ministry of Public Works and Transport. During the meeting, both parties exchanged on the draft Cooperation Agreement between the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education and that local body for the academic training of Namibian students.

Counsellor Martínez also participated in the virtual meeting between the Cuban Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM, by its acronym in Spanish) and the Namibian Ministry of Mines and Energy. Rossel Guerra, Director of Renewable Energies at MINEM, chaired the Cuban part and Mr. John Titus, Director of Energy, attended on the Namibian side. At the meeting, they exchanged about the mutual interests of cooperation in the energy sector.

Likewise, the diplomat accompanied the Cuban experts Jesús Hernández and Eldis Fernández to a working meeting with the H.E. Mrs. Annely Haiphene, executive director of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, and with Mr. Rudi Cloete, director of Aquaculture of that Ministry. During the meeting, the parties evaluated the satisfactory work of both aquaculture specialists, who work at the Apalela and Omehenene farms, located in northern Namibia. Bilateral interest in expanding Cuban cooperation in this area was also highlighted.

Similarly, the Economic and Commercial Counselor participated in the virtual meeting between Dr. Raydel Montesino, rector of the University of Informatics Sciences of Cuba (UCI), and Professor Keneth Matungu, acting rector of the University of Namibia ( UNAM, for its acronym in English). Both officials exchanged about the possibilities of establishing technical assistance agreements between their institutions.
