Director for Latin America of the Estonian Foreign Ministry holds a meeting with the head of mission a.i of Cuba.

Helsinki, May 13th.- Director for the Middle East, Africa and Latin America of the Estonian Chancellery, H.E. Ms. Ingrid Amer, held this morning, a fruitful virtual exchange with the Charge D’Affaires a.i of Cuba in Finland and the Baltic countries, Mr. Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry.

During the meeting, both diplomats highlighted the positive progress in bilateral ties between the Greater Caribbean Antilles and the Baltic country, even in times of a global pandemic.

Ambassador Amer took the opportunity to underline the positive progress of the bilateral Cuba-EU political dialogue, which has taken place in recent years in a satisfactory manner, based on mutual respect and the willingness to cooperate on both sides.

Rodríguez Etcheverry, for his part, updated his interlocutor about the situation of aggressiveness reinforcement of the Blockade policy imposed by the United States against the Caribbean Island.

“The previous US administration consciously added, to this unjust policy of Blockade, more than 240 coercive measures in the last 4 years, ready to undermine the Cuban economy and generate disastrous humanitarian consequences for our people, especially during the last year of the pandemic of Sars CoV-2 (2020-2021) ”, expressed the Cuban diplomat.

For this reason, the United Nations General Assembly will witness on June 23rd, for the twenty-ninth time in a row, the presentation of the draft resolution entitled: “Need to Necessity of ending the economic, financial and commercial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”, which will culminate in a sure vote rejecting such an unfair and hostile policy, the longest in history with proven and negative effectiveness against the Greater Antilles.
