Declaration of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power

Once again, the reactionary forces of the European Parliament, who are subordinated to the most hostile positions of the United States, have imposed an anti-Cuba resolution in their plenary session, on the pretext of alleged human rights violations.
The promoters of this monstrosity have been utterly shameless in lying about alleged cases of torture, cruel and degrading treatment, committed against human rights defenders, which is how they refer to people protected and paid from the United States to subvert the constitutional order in our country. Their determination to protect common criminals and mercenaries clearly states their contempt for human rights of the Cuban people since the main violation committed against us, the US blockade, is hardly ever mentioned.
The meddling terms and the most rancid colonialist language of the aforementioned resolution would not merit any attention, if they were not part of a crude attempt to isolate internationally a country subjected to an unconventional war, which only purpose is to impose a change of political system, contrary to its Constitution. Incidentally, by doing so, they avoid pronouncements on real human rights violations taking place in Europe, the United States of America, Israel and in other countries where such practices do happen.
Such a selective, cynical and repeated stance is primarily an attack on the credibility of the European Parliament, and contrasts with the relations of mutual respect and political dialogue existing between Cuba and the European Union.
Facing the promoters of a document that embodies the ignominy of that institution, the MEPs opposed to this injustice raised their voices in firm condemnation. We thank them, the 150 who opposed and 119 others who did not support the document, for their ethical stance.
The International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People’s Power categorically rejects this resolution and denounces before the world this new aggression against Cuba and its people.
