Cuban collaborators in Jamaica debate the new Family Code

Kingston, Jamaica, March 14, 2022. During this month of March, the members of the Cuban State Mission in Jamaica discuss in assemblies the draft of the new Family Code.

Cuban health and education collaborators from the western and central regions of Jamaica met during the first two weekends of the current month to discuss different aspects of the new legal norm. The members of the Henry Reeve Brigade in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British overseas territory under the care of the Cuban Embassy in Jamaica, also held their assembly. Parental relationships, marriage, adoption and care for the elderly and people with disabilities have been among the topics of the document that have aroused the greatest interest among the participants in the debates.

During the current month, all the members of the State Mission will debate the document and their proposals for additions, deletions, modifications, their declarations of support and their doubts about the text of the bill will be collected. The Cubans who are in the abroad for particular reasons may also submit their proposals through this portal.

The new Family Code, which seeks to replace the current one approved in 1975, is considered by experts to be an advanced document that includes the best international experiences in the field of human rights, inclusion and social protection.
